How do people think of life?

Answer #4: Some lives are intrinsically worth more than others.

This view of life draws distinctions between people based on their ethnic group, skin color, economic status, or perceived intelligence, and some are preferred over others. There is a reaction against this, too, that those who are preferred are oppressors who must be put down in order to lift up the oppressed. This view of life polarizes people into "us" versus "them" instead of God for us all.

But that's not how God views life! Yes, there is a hierarchy to life - but not one of worth, but of vocation. Those higher are not "better," but are supposed to take care of those "under" them. Jesus is our example here. Although the Son of God, He came down to serve all people and lay down his life for them; every life worth His own. So while God uses different people in different ways and in different vocations, all matter to Him and He desires all be saved and be His sons and daughters.

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ

~ 1 Corinthians 12:12

Lord Jesus, thank You for all the people You have created. Help me see them as You do and to love them as You love them - and as You love me! And help me fulfill the vocations You have given me in service to others. Amen.
